Spanish Championship and Masters for Young Horses 2024

Oliva CAD achieves her second qualifying average for the selection for the World Championship for 7-year-old Young Horses. Verdi CAD returns to the shows, doing his first 5-year-old level tests.

The last week of May, one of the most important events of the year at the national level took place at the facilities of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. The Spanish Absolute Championship and the Criterium were held. Being 2024 the year of the Olympics, in this final the 8 preselected pairs were chosen to represent Spain that summer in Paris, which made the level of this edition very high, bringing together even Spanish riders who live in foreign countries. Finally, a P.R.E., Malagueño LXXXIII, ridden by José Daniel Martín Dockx, managed to win the 3 tests, proclaiming themself new Spanish Champions.

As for the young horses, it was also an important competition, since the marks will be taken into account for the final selection of horses that will go to the World Championship in Ermelo in September. In these tests, the level was also very high, and practically all the horses with the best scores throughout the season were gathered.

Yeguada Mendoza Cadema came with two P.R.E. On the one hand, in the 7-year-old tests, Oliva CAD (x Doblón TR) ridden by Raúl Arcos, sought to obtain her second valid mark for the Ermelo selection, a mark she achieved in the final test, with an average of 70.224%. Oliva CAD was one of the three P.R.E. horses participants at this level, in which there were 12 high quality horses. His next appointment, and last selection test, will be at the Cecyl in Segovia, in mid-July.

On the other hand, Verdi CAD (x Jinete IX) ridden by Marta Martínez, participated for the first time this year in the tests for 5-year-old horses. With the aim of coming back to compete and seeking qualifying notes for SICAB, the quality of this horse could be seen in all the tests, despite the inexperience still shown at this level. In the final test they obtained an average of 73.600%, being the third best P.R.E. horse classified in the level.
