From September 18th to 20th, the Final of the Selection Tests for Young Horses 2024 took place in Dos Lunas, Sotogrande. As in previous years, Yeguada Mendoza Cadema came to participate with several horses. This time, the participation broke records with a total of 120 horses. All the tests were broadcast live through the Official ANCCE Competitions website/app and the ClipMyHorse.TV platform.
In this edition, the jury was made up of prominent international judges such as Thomas Lang, Peter Holler and Mariano Santos, as well as several national judges: Teresa Fontán, Mª Teresa Alonso-Miñon, Aránzazu Flores, Juan Heredia, David Mérida, Ángel María Sánchez and Christine Noyes Brown.
In the 4-year-old category, Spring CAD (Springbank II VH x Jinete IX), a CDE mare, ridden by María Gómez, won the preliminary test with a very correct exercise and an average score of 80.600% in the category with the most registered participants, 53 in total. They achieved scores of 8.5 for the walk, 8.3 for future expectations and 8.0 for the canter. In the final test they achieved the third place with an average of 77.200%. The average for both days, 78.900%, allowed them to win the 4-year-old level.
In this same test participated Muleta CAD (Torero XI), ridden by Raúl Arcos, who achieved a 71.400% in the preliminary test, with a noteworthy score of 7.8 for her nice and relaxed walk.
In the 5-year-old category, Verdi CAD (Jinete IX) ridden by Marta Martínez, managed to win the level and the ANCCE Cup in a test with 31 participating horses. On the first day, with a very nice test and brilliant moments in the canter and trot part, they achieved scores of 8.2 for the canter and future expectations and 8.0 for the trot, made an average score of 80.200% and first place. In the final test they obtained fourth place and an average score of 77.600%, with a submission of 8.0 and canter and future expectations with scores of 7.9.
Finally, in the 7-year-old level, Raúl Arcos riding Bucanero CAD (Doblón-TR), got the bronze medal in the general average. On the first day they obtained a fourth position with 71.736%, the technical average being 66.071% and the gaits average being 77.400%, with marks of 8.2 for the walk and 7.9 for the canter.
As we can read on the official ANCCE website: “with this Final, the 2024 season of the Young Horse Cycle concludes. These tests have been counted towards the ANCCE Cup Final, with a coefficient of 1.4 for the ranking. The horses will be genetically evaluated. Those that obtain the category of Recommended Young Breeder will be included in the 2025 Breeder Catalogue and in the PRE Genealogical Book (LG PRE ANCCE), contributing to the Breed Improvement Program.”
