2024 young horse world championship in Ermelo

From 4th to 8th of August, the most important event of the year for young horses worldwide took place at the headquarters of the KNHS, the Dutch Equestrian Federation, in Ermelo (Netherlands), which this year celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Horses of all breeds between 5 and 7 years old, selected by their respective breeding books throughout the season, competed during the first week of September for the World Champion medals, judged by a very important group of judges. In past editions, some of the most important horses that we see today competing at Grand Prix at an international level have passed through these arenas.

We had the opportunity to attend for the first time with two of our PRE horses, Olvido CAD, age of 5, and Oliva CAD, age of 7. The Spanish team is made up of 5 horses at each level, most of them PRE horses. ANCCE gave us the opportunity to travel a few days before to a training camp in Mol (Belgium) where we could train with the coach Dani Martin Dockx. These days before the championship, as ANCCE indicates on its website, have been marked by moments of conviviality, excitement and camaraderie both among the riders and with the technical team, even with the presence of the president Jose Juan Morales.

Olvido CAD was the first of our horses to compete in a test with 46 horses and scores that exceeded 90%. The first time in Ermelo is always exciting, but also overwhelming, especially when entering such an important arena. In our case, Raúl Arcos and Olvido CAD were not able to present a test as brilliant as those we were used to during the season. Their best scores were for trot, submission and future expectations (7.5). On the second day in the small final, and after a good warm-up in which the horse was already much more relaxed and expressive, we had the bad luck of a stumble in the first corner, with Olvido taking some irregular steps when leaving it and being eliminated immediately.

The 7-year-old tests with Oliva CAD went better for us, the averages on the second day, in the small final, were close to 70%, with a very nice and relaxed execution of the exercises, very fluid lateral work, and a mistake in a series of changes that cost several points. It was the highest score for the PRE horses at this level, and we took home a good experience and very positive comments from the judges.

Here we end the international part of this season, having fulfilled the objective set at the beginning of the year with both horses and we would like to thank both the entire ANCCE team for the support received these days, as well as our main sponsor Git Doc.
